What is the connection between a PAUSE BUTTON and your thoughts?
Are you aware of the thousands of thoughts running around in your head?
Research has shown that 98% of our thoughts are exactly the same as the day before and 80% of our thoughts are negative.
If we accept that our thoughts affect our feelings and actions that’s a lot of time we spend focusing on something we can’t/ shouldn’t/ won’t be able/ to do.
These negative thoughts come from beliefs that we have about ourselves that have usually developed in childhood. We tell ourselves these things so many times that we believe them to be true. We often call these thoughts limiting beliefs.
These beliefs can sabotage our success and keep us stuck. But if we recognise them, we can press the PAUSE Button and
Two very common types of beliefs are beliefs about self-worth and beliefs about money
Self-worth
A very common belief is ‘I am not ____________ enough’ If you can fill the blank with a word such as good, clever, pretty, strong, rich, popular (and lots more) then this is a limiting belief.
So, my challenge to you today, is to press the PAUSE button when you catch yourself thinking one of these beliefs about yourself and turn it around into something positive. Once you are aware of the thoughts and the beliefs that cause them, it is usually easy enough to change them. If you don’t though, it is likely the beliefs will continue to hold you back and prevent you from achieving what you would like to.
Money beliefs
Just like self-worth beliefs, money beliefs can seriously affect your success, unless, of course you know how to recognise and change them.
Do you self-sabotage around money? If you do, you will most likely have beliefs from childhood that are holding you back
Some examples of money beliefs are:
Money doesn’t grow on trees.
Rich people are selfish or unspiritual.
I can’t have both money AND love
There’s too big a price to pay when it comes to being financially successful (too many taxes, etc)
If I want to earn more money, I have to work harder
I’m not good with money
Money is the root of all evil
Someone else should or will do this for me (I am not……... enough to do it/someone else will)
I am not________________ enough If we don’t value ourselves/see our worth we are not going to get the value in exchange. No one will value you if you don’t value yourself, if you have low self-worth
Do you recognize any of these beliefs?
Do you remember how you got that belief? The belief may come from things you were told as a child or that you picked up from the actions of people around you.
Because our beliefs become our thoughts; our thoughts become our actions and our actions create our results, we have reinforced these beliefs throughout our lives and proved to ourselves time and again that it is true.
But it doesn’t have to be that way.
We can press the PAUSE Button, recognize what we are telling ourselves, press RESET, stop creating situations that reinforce that belief and move forward. Sounds easy right?
Yes, sometimes that’s all it takes, sometimes a bit more work is required to let go. But always the first step is to become aware of the limiting belief and recognize that it is just a BELIEF not a FACT. And while it may have been relevant when we were a child, it is not relevant now.
Do you recognize any of these self-worth or money beliefs? You probably do because we all have them in some shape or form.
In my online course Five steps to Conquering your Limiting Beliefs, I walk you through the stages of first becoming aware of your beliefs to eventually releasing or changing them. When you do this, you will be able to remove your blocks and move forward to achieve what you are trying to achieve and become the person you want to be.
